Phil Foden shares secret to Man City performance and issues David Silva plea

Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden has revealed the secret to his starring performance against Burnley, sharing the work that has gone on behind the scenes with set-pieces.

The Stockport-born ace put in a Man of the Match display with a brace, taking his tally to three goals in two matches since the restart, and was instrumental in the victory for Pep Guardiola's side.

By his own admission, it was his best performance to date wearing City colours and the hard work on the training pitch has proved to be beneficial.

"We have a set-piece coach and we've been working really hard at short corners and defending as well, which you can see. It's good when it comes off," he told Sky Sports.

"We worked on the set-piece, drawing the defenders out. I knew where I was going to play the pass, it's just about disguising it to give the player more time. I'm just happy it came off really.

"I'd like to think that was my best game in a City shirt. I'm still learning every day so I've got a long way to go but I'm just happy when I put in performances like that."

Foden is widely touted to be the successor to David Silva in the attacking midfield position, with the Spaniard set to leave upon the end of the deal.

However, rather than think about potentially replacing the iconic midfielder, Foden believes he should extend his deal at the Etihad Stadium.

"I think he should extend his contract to be honest. How he played today, it's unbelievable. I don't want to think about it too much, I'm just enjoying playing with him. It's a pleasure to play with him."
