Phil Foden believes Manchester City can “definitely” win the quadruple this season.
The English starlet scored twice and played a standout role in City’s 4-1 victory over Newport County on Saturday to send the club in FA Cup quarter-finals.
Pep Guardiola‘s side are currently top of the Premier League and travel to Schalke for the first-leg of their Champions League round of 16 tie, before facing Chelsea in the Carabao Cup on Sunday.
“Everything is going well at the moment,” Foden said. “But it is it is going to be difficult.”
No English team has ever won all four competitions, and while Guardiola sought to temper expectations, he didn’t deny that is what his squad was aiming for.
Speaking to BT Sport, Guardiola said: ”We are in four competitions – every game is completely different.
“You play League Two, then Champions League. You have to adapt and change mentality.
“The big mistake is believing you are better than anyone.
“It is a mistake like United are praised and better than PSG – but you saw what happened. You have to be calm and prepare well.”
Victory didn’t come easy on a grizzly pitch at Rodney Parade, with the first half ending goalless before Leroy Sane broke the deadlock in the 51st minute.
Foden then scored his fourth goal for the club, before Padraig Amond gave Newport hope in the 88th minute. However, Foden’s second and Riyad Mahrez’s stoppage-time strike put Newport's dream run to bed.
