Phil Foden makes Premier League title claim after Man City and Liverpool draw

Phil Foden has revealed his Manchester City side are expecting a close title race that could go down to the wire after Sunday’s draw with Liverpool.

Foden was on the scoresheet at Anfield as his side twice came from behind to earn a point in a pulsating encounter against Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Sadio Mane opened the scoring for Liverpool just before the hour mark, before Foden equalised for the visitors ten minutes later.

Mohamed Salah then got his ninth goal of the season with a sublime individual effort, but it would prove not to be the winner as Kevin De Bruyne restored parity nine minutes from time.

The draw moved City up to third in the Premier League table, while Liverpool sit one place above the Etihad club and a point behind leaders Chelsea.

And Foden expects a number of teams to be challenging for the title this season and believes the last week only proves how competitive this season will be.

“I think we have played three of the best teams in football right now, back-to-back," he said after the game at Anfield.

"Being Manchester City, we love those games and we want to win those games to show our quality against the best players.

“I think in every single game against Chelsea, PSG and Liverpool today, we showed a very high standard and put in great performances.”

Before the England international continued: “I feel like it is going to go all the way.

"We know there are a lot of teams in the title race this year and it is really good to see that there is more than one team fighting at the top of the league. We will fight until the end.”
