Phil Foden in line to treble Man City wages with lucrative new deal

Phil Foden is set to receive a big pay rise at Manchester City and is expected to put pen to paper on a new deal at the Etihad early next year.

The 20-year-old, who made his debut for the club back in 2017, is establishing himself as a regular in Pep Guardiola's side this season.

He has made six Premier League appearances so far, scoring twice, and the summer departure of David Silva appears to have given him more opportunities to shine in the first-team.

Foden signed a six-year contract in 2018 worth £25,000-a-week, but it is believed his new deal could see him treble that to £75,000-a-week.

He will also be offered significant clauses, such as a £9,000 win bonus, and City chiefs are confident that the Stockport-born midfielder will agree to the terms.

Foden courted controversy earlier this year when he and Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood broke COVID-19 protocols by bringing guests to their team hotel in Iceland while on England duty.

But after being sent home he has subsequently been recalled to the national team by manager Gareth Southgate, and he is involved in the squad for the upcoming games against the Republic of Ireland, Belgium and Iceland.

Before that he is expected to start City's huge game against Liverpool on Sunday as he tries to help his side get a positive result to help turn around their mixed start to the season.

City currently lie 11th place in the table, but victory over the Reds would move them to within just two points of last season's champions having played a game less.

Ahead of the game Guardiola said: "When you play against teams like Liverpool you always have moments where you have to suffer. We know it, we have to do it and try to use our strength as much a possible.

"We know each other quite well, we play many, many times and I don't expect a game like 90 minutes we will be there or they will be there."

"There will be ups and downs, we have to be stable and take our good chances and be clinical. Both teams want to attack, both teams want to try."
