Phil Foden has issued thanks to Manchester City teammate Raheem Sterling following his superb assist in the Champions League triumph against Olympiacos.
Victory for Pep Guardiola's side secures a spot in the knockout stage of the competition, becoming the fifth side to do so, and maintains a 100 per cent record in Europe this term.
The decisive moment of the game came in the first half through Foden 's effort, which came about after superb play from Sterling as he backheeled the ball expertly to his compatriot.
While City were unable to extend their advantage in the second half despite some decent opportunities, Foden's goal was enough to secure the win and he made sure to hail Sterling after the game.
“This result today means that we qualify for the next round, which is really important for this club," he told BT Sport.
“Fair play to them, they came out fighting in the second half, so we did well to dig in at the end to get the result.
“Raheem is a great player in those areas and somehow he saw me, pulled the backheel off. It’s great to play for him, so thanks for the assist.
“We haven’t had the best results in the league but it’s good to see that we’re doing the right things in the Champions League and getting those results, which are important.
“We need to work on scoring more goals in games but we created the chances. Hopefully one day, we can take enough chances to finish the game comfortably.”
City are back in Premier League action this weekend against Burnley, while their European exploits are finished over the next two weeks against Porto and Marseille.
