Phil Foden believes Manchester City are back to their best as they look to mount a Premier League title challenge this season.
Foden scored the only goal of the game as Pep Guardiola's side beat Brighton & Hove Albion 1-0 in Wednesday evening's clash at the Etihad Stadium.
The England international midfielder struck just before half-time, in the 44th minute, with a fine finish, from Kevin De Bruyne's assist.
That turned out to be the winner as substitute Raheem Sterling missed a late penalty for the home side.
The result lifted City up to third in the table and they are now only a point behind Liverpool - and four behind leaders Manchester United - with a game in hand on both of their rivals.
And of course, United take on Liverpool at Anfield this weekend, so at least one of them will drop points.
"We know that we have a game in hand now and we just have to think of the next opponent and not think too far ahead," Foden told BT Sport.
"We just want to keep going with this form and pushing to win the league, hopefully.
"I definitely feel that we're back to our best. We can definitely take confidence from the last few results now.
"Today I still thought we could have done better, and we dug deep to get the win.
"So overall I'm very proud of the team, how we kept going until the final whistle, and overall it was a great result."
On Brighton and his goal, Foden added: "They defended really well. They had a good game plan and they made it difficult for us to break them down.
"So to get the goal just before half-time was really important - and it ended up being the winning goal, so I'm delighted.
"I don't score too many with my right foot, so when they come along, I enjoy it! So, yeah, good goal."
Foden now has 10 goals for club and country this season - including eight for City in all competitions.
"I always like to score goals and be there in the box," he said. "I want to just keep scoring goals, and I'm enjoying it at the moment."
