Paul Merson says Patrick Bamford has already proved him wrong in the Premier League.
The Leeds United striker has hit two goals in his opening two league games of the season, alongside winning a penalty against Fulham.
Bamford's performances have fully backed Marcelo Bielsa's decision to favour him over summer signing Rodrigo up front.
The 27-year-old has come in for criticism at times due to his performances at Leeds since moving from Middlesbrough in 2018 and Merson admits he did not expect Bamford to prove himself Premier League quality.
Whilst the outspoken Soccer Saturday pundit admits there is a long way to go before Bamford has proved he can consistently perform at Premier League level, Merson says he has been very impressed with what he has seen in Leeds' opening two matches.
Merson said: "He’s proved me wrong so far if I’m being honest.
"I didn’t see it. He’s putting himself in the box. He’s winning penalties.
"Leeds have only had seven shots on goal and they’ve scored seven goals, which is phenomenal going.
"One of his goals was a great goal, it was Thierry Henry-like. He’s been outstanding.
"He’s done everything right so far. Can he do that for the rest of the season? Only time will tell."
Bamford's improved performances have been backed up by the stats/
His shot accuracy last season was just 38.9 per cent but currently stands at 66.7 per cent.
After previously struggling in the Premier League with spells at Crystal Palace, Norwich City and Boro, Bamford has already scored more top-flight goals this season than he had done in his whole career before the campaign started.
