Phase 2 of Joint Gulf Shield 1 Drill Concludes

Joint Gulf Shield 1 Drills have concluded in the Eastern Region of Saudi Arabia with the participation of 24 countries in addition to Saudi troops from all military sectors.

The drills aimed to ensure effective coordination between multi-national units from the 24 countries to maintain peace and security against modern adversaries. It is considered one of the biggest in the region for the number of troops taking part in it.

The 7-day military maneuvers included live ammunition, clearing a chemical attack facility, striking air force missile pads, naval vessel operations, coastal defense, clearing villages etc.Led by Saudi Arabia, the exercise aimed to showcase the Kingdom's capability of planning and executing military actions and operating modern weapon systems.

The exercise is similar to operations like ‘Desert Storm’ in 1990-1991, and ‘Northern Thunder’ that took place in ‘Hafr Al Batin’ region in Saudi Arabia in 2016.
