Pharmacy workers threatened with knife by drug thief on bike

A man threatened staff with a knife during a robbery at a north Liverpool pharmacy before making off with cash and medication.

Police said the offender demanded money from staff at the Green Cross Pharmacy on Breck Road and escaped on a push bike with the money and prescription drugs.

He headed off towards the Cabbage Hall pub.

The incident happened at around 9am on Saturday, police confirmed today.

A local man who said that he knew some of the staff at the pharmacy said: "One of the women managed to hit the panic button while he (the offender) was emptying the safe, so the police were there quick.

"The police closed the area off and put a cordon in place.

"I understand the staff are OK but a little shaken. A few local women work there - it's such a shame for them."

Police confirmed that the staff were not hurt but left "shaken" by their ordeal.

The offender is described as white, in his 20s or 30s and around 5ft 7in tall. He was wearing a navy blue hooded top with the hood up and had his face covered and dark coloured trousers.

A police spokesman said to the ECHO : "At around 9am on Saturday an unknown male entered the Greencross Pharmacy on Breck Road.

"The man, who was armed with a knife, demanded money from staff.

"He then made off with a quantity of cash and prescription medication. It is believed he was riding a push bike and was last seen heading towards the Cabbage Hall pub."

Detective Inspector Phil Atkinson said: “I would appeal to anyone who was in the area round Breck Road and saw the man described on his bike to contact us.

“Similarly I would ask anyone who was in the area who has dashcam footage to get in touch as they may have information which is vital to the investigation.”
