Pharmacy in Keyworth 'no longer financially viable' announces closing date

A pharmacy in Keyworth which is no longer "financially viable" has announced it is set to close.

KMP Pharmacy, which is based in Keyworth Medical Centre in Bunny Lane, will shut its doors on April 30.

The pharmacy will cease trading due to their financial situation, which has been worsened by the Covid pandemic and a "lack of support from the government."

The practice, along with its dispensary, will remain unaffected by the pharmacy closure.

In a message to customers, the pharmacy wrote: "Despite the best effort of the directors to provide a service to patients in the evenings, at the weekend and on Bank Holidays, this has not proved to be financially viable.

"This has not been helped by the current Covid situation and lack of support from the government.

"This has had a severe impact on the business - this cost has not been borne by the NHS.

The message continues: "Patients living in Keyworth or within a one mile radius of a pharmacy will need to sign up with another pharmacy of their choice.

"If you have any queries, please speak to a member of the pharmacy team.

"Thank you to those patients who have supported our efforts over the last few years."

The dispensary will be open from 8am until 6.30pm from Monday to Friday - it will be available for residents in a number of villages outside of Keyworth to use, such as Bunny, Hickling and Plumtree.

KMP Pharmacy is not the only one on offer in the village - nearby Keyworth Pharmacy and Well Keyworth in the Square will remain open.

Councilor Rob Inglis, who represents the Keyworth ward for Rushcliffe Borough Council, said: "I learned about the news when I saw residents talking about it on Facebook.

"We have got the other two pharmacies, so we're certainly well populated for them here in Keyworth.

"But it's always a shame to see another failing business, isn't it?"
