PGMOL release statement on Andy Robertson and linesman incident in Liverpool vs Arsenal

The PGMOL have released a statement indicating they are aware of an incident involving Andrew Roberston and linesman Constantine Hatzidakis.

The moment occurred at half time of the game between Liverpool and Arsenal after tensions boiled over in the major Premier League clash between the two clubs. The Liverpool left-back was booked for his complaints with Jordan Henderson remonstrating with referee Paul Tierney.

PGMOL's Statement read: "PGMOL is aware of an incident involving assistant referee Constantine Hatzidakis and Liverpool defender Andrew Robertson at half-time during the Liverpool v Arsenal fixture at Anfield. We will review the matter in full once the game has concluded."

Early goals from Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli put Arsenal in control, but the game quickly shifted on its head following an incident involving Granit Xhaka and Trent Alexander Arnold. Just a few moments after their bust-up following a stray arm from Xhaka on Alexander Arnold, Liverpool pulled a goal back through Mohamed Salah.

Tensions continued to build up until the half time whistle and things boiled over to some regard as the two teams headed down the tunnel but not involving any Arsenal stars. Instead, Andy Robertson and linesman Constantine Hatzidakis were at the heart of the controversy.

The Scotsman began pleading with the official over a decision but saw his complaints shrugged off quite literally with Hatzidakis sending an elbow in the direction of Robertson which collided with his face.

In March, Fulham's Aleksandar Mitrovic was shown a red card for pushing a referee and subsequently handed an eight-game ban.
