PGMOL explain Harry Kane penalty decision in Spurs defeat to Newcastle

The decision not to award Spurs a penalty certainly got tongues wagging over the weekend.

With Tottenham a goal down against Newcastle, Mauricio Pochettino's side were hoping for that bit of luck that could see them find a route back into the game.

Alas, it wasn't to be.

As Harry Kane was played the ball in the penalty area, Newcastle defender Jamal Lascelle's appeared to stumble and lost his footing in front of the England striker.

That fall brought the Spurs star crashing to the ground as well with fans all around the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium screaming for a penalty.

However after a lengthy stoppage the referee and the VAR team in Stockley Park made the decision not to award the penalty.

Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) issued a explanation on their decision not to award the penalty which can be seen below.

They said: "It was considered not to be a penalty by the on-field referee.

"As this was a subjective decision, the VAR deemed that there was not enough evidence to overturn the original call and so stuck with the on-field decision."
