The PGA Tour will stop onsite testing for COVID-19 at tournaments starting with the 3M Open.
The Tour made the announcement in an email sent to players on Monday, attributing new procedures to the “high rate of vaccination among all constituents on PGA Tour as well as other positively trending factors across the country.”
As such, players will no longer need to provide proof of a negative test starting at TPC Twin Cities in Blaine, Minnesota, July 22-25.
The Tour will still maintain onsite testing capabilities for symptomatic individuals and it will be expected of anyone experiencing COVID-19 related symptoms to notify Tour officials.
In the email, the protocol now states that “fully vaccinated individuals who have been in close contact with someone who has COVID-19 do not need to quarantine unless they have symptoms.”
Further: “Unvaccinated individuals who have been in close contact with someone who has COVID-19 must notify the Tour and follow Tour contact tracing protocol.”
The 3M Open, won by 35-year-old Michael Thompson a year ago, which snapped a seven-year winless streak for him. Last year’s event was the 11th after the restart and was held without fans.
The Tour also announced that onsite testing will continue at Korn Ferry Tour events.
