PGA Tour: Sung Kang dominates the field Friday at AT&T Byron Nelson

Sung Kang needs to win this weekend at the AT&T Byron Nelson to qualify for next week’s 2019 PGA Championship at Bethpage Black, and he put himself in a great position with a jaw-dropping second round score of 61 on a cold and difficult day at Trinity Forest Golf Club.

Kang, who has never won on the PGA Tour, went on a run of six consecutive birdies midway through his round, and posted a bogey-free score of 10-under par.

Kang finished his round by drilling a 14-foot par putt to avoid dropping a shot.

Kang’s 61 has a chance to stand up as one of the best individual rounds of the year, given the conditions. Matt Every and Martin Laird also went low, carding rounds of 65 and 66, respectively, but most of the field struggled to score while Kang was breezing through the course. His 61 gave him a four-shot lead on Every in second place.

The 2019 PGA Championship will begin Thursday, May 16th.
