PGA Tour commissioner took care of the workers at TPC Sawgrass

If the Players Championship had finished as scheduled, the winner would have taken home $2.7 million as the total purse had increased to $15 million this year.

But we all know what happened at the Players, and all of the 144 players took home $52,000 after play was called after the first round at TPC Sawgrass near the Tour’s headquarters.

What we didn’t know at the time was how the PGA Tour would handle all of the moving parts associated with calling off a tournament, the Tour’s flagship event, while it was in progress.

Here’s one thing commissioner Jay Monahan did to try and support the hundreds of workers who were expecting a paycheck for a week of duty.

TPC Sawgrass and Tour officials elected to pay 445 TPC Sawgrass employees in full for the hours they were scheduled to work during the entire tournament. It’s one small act of kindness that meant a lot to many.
