A wild third round at the PGA Championship that saw a number of different players grab at least a share of the lead ended with Alex Smalley on top with a two-shot advantage over some big names.
Smalley, who played in the final group on Saturday, bogeyed three of his first holes and became a bit of an afterthought midway through his round. But then he made four birdies on the back nine to jump into the lead and now he has a great chance to win his first major.
Jon Rahm, Ludvig Aberg, Matti Schmid, Nick Taylor and Aaron Rai are two shots back. Rory McIlroy, Xander Schauffele and Patrick Reed are in a group that’s three back.
