PGA Championship: Jason Day, the Olympics and Bethpage Black

SPRINGFIELD, N.J. _ Before he hit a single practice shot on Baltusrol Golf Club, Jason Day admitted that he felt like his tank was on "E."

The defending PGA champion said he was "a little under the weather" because of some germs he picked up from his children. Then he was at the emergency room with his wife, Ellie, until about 2 in the morning Wednesday.

She had some kind of allergic reaction, Day said, adding "She got all red." He called 911. "The paramedics came and they looked after her, which is great. She's fine now. We got a little loss of sleep but we're fine."

Day met with reporters before his practice round Wednesday, which he said was his first look at Baltusrol. But he was enthusiastic about the information he gathered in a half-hour conversation with the club's head pro Doug Steffen at the champions dinner Tuesday night.
