PFL 2019 Championship official for Dec. 31 in New York

The PFL will once again crown six world champions on New Year’s Eve.

Promotion officials on Thursday announced that the PFL 2019 championship will take place Dec. 31 at Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York. The card will air love on ESPN2.

“We’re thrilled to continue our annual tradition and bring back the biggest night in MMA to New York City on New Year’s Eve at Madison Square Garden,” PFL CEO Peter Murray stated. “The ball will not drop until the six belts are raised.

“With six weight classes, six world title fights
and six $1 million dollar prizes on the line, the PFL Championship is a must-see event.”

Tickets for the event go on sale to the general public Friday and can be purchased at Ticketmaster.com.

Meanwhile, the company’s 2019 playoffs get underway Friday with PFL 2019, Playoffs 1 at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.

Additional playoff events are schedule for Oct. 17 and Oct. 31 in the same venue.

Heavyweight Philipe Lins, light heavyweight Sean O’Connell, middleweight Louis Taylor, welterweight Magomed Magomedkerimov, lightweight Natan Schulte and featherweight Lance Palmer all claimed world titles and $1 million prizes in the promotion’s inaugural 2018 season.

The 2019 season features all of the same divisions, save one: middleweight, which PFL officials ditched in favor of adding a women’s lightweight tournament to this year’s schedule.
