When Kirk Cousins started to find a rhythm after the Bears game, he looked to be a totally different quarterback. Cousins was finding receivers way down field and capitalizing on a system that didn’t rely on typical drop-back passing.
Pro Football Focus took notice, and gave Kirk Cousins top grades in several passing categories.
The outlet ranked Cousins first in finding wideouts on crossers, and on targeting wide receivers out wide. I think having two star-caliber receivers in Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs is conducive to Cousins’ success in those categories.
PFF also ranked Cousins first in play-action passes and designed roll outs. These categories are indicative of a system change from the previous season. Cousins wasn’t expected to throw as much as he was in 2018-19, and when the run game was established, he was able to pick apart defenses by faking the run and rolling out into space.
