PFF’s top 5 graded Chargers on offense

Yesterday, we brought you the top five defenders according to Pro Football Focus. Today, it’s the offenses turn. I don’t think we’ll see as many surprises on this side of the ball. Unfortunately for the Chargers, it was all or nothing on offense. There wasn’t much middle ground on players. You were either really good or not so much at all. Here’s PFF’s list:

Mike Williams was a completely different player in 2018. At the end of his rookie year it looked like he couldn’t catch a pass. At the end of this year he was one of the few receivers on the team that could. Williams became a legitimate threat for the Chargers.

It became clear that the Chargers are a different offense when either Austin Ekeler or Melvin Gordon are not suited up. They’re even better when both backs are on the field. The duo complemented each other well. For the first part of the year, they carried the offense.

There’s not much to say about both Philip Rivers and Keenan Allen that already hasn’t been said. Up until December, Rivers was a prime MVP candidate. If that’s his grade after a “down” month, imagine how high it was prior to?

For Keenan, he continues to prove that he’s one of the top receivers in the league. Three catches shy of 100 in an offense with plenty of mouths to feed. More than ever, Allen was used down the field this year. Hopefully they continue to stretch the field with him. Take advantage of his route running.
