PFF names Andrew Luck the best No. 1 pick since 2006

Former Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck was ranked as the best No. 1 overall pick in the NFL draft since 2006 by Pro Football Focus.

“There have been a lot of “good” players taken at No. 1 overall since 2006, but perhaps none qualify as a sure-fire Hall of Famer. Of them, Luck reached the highest sustained peak, recording overall grades of 90.4 and 91.2 in his final two seasons before retiring after multiple injuries. There’s a good chance that Kyler Murray, Joe Burrow or Trevor Lawrence, all of whom were taken No. 1 overall in recent years, could be changing this in time.”

Luck carried a brutal roster for years before he decided to finally hang up the spikes at the age of 29 years old. Despite management neglecting the idea of properly protecting a generational talent, Luck always kept the Colts in the game regardless of the talent around him.

The injuries and mental wear took their toll on Luck, who decided to surprisingly announce his retirement just a few weeks before the start of the 2019 season. The Colts have since featured Jacoby Brissett (2019) and Philip Rivers (2020) as the starting quarterbacks, and they look forward to bringing in Carson Wentz in as the new starter.

Much hasn’t been heard about Luck since his retirement, but he’s still one of the best draft picks from the last decade.
