PFF named this Patriots rookie the offensive player of the week

Despite all the problems that were sent Bill Belichick’s way this offseason, the offensive line hasn’t been one of them.

New England’s offensive line is guiding the NFL team with the second-most rushing yards through four weeks. One of the biggest surprise factors on the line is sixth-round right guard, Michael Onwenu, out of Michigan.

Onwenu was named Pro Football Focus’ offensive player of the week, and that accolade came on his first start. Onwenu earned an elite 91.3 overall grade against the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday — he didn’t allow a single pressure on 34 snaps in pass protection. He’s been flexible at left and right guard, while playing in a platoon at right tackle at times.

This block by the 6-foot-3, 375 pound guard is an example of what he’s capable of.

The Patriots’ offensive line will be the essential factor for the team’s success this season.
