Minnesota has some big decisions to make this offseason.
How will the team shore up cap space? Who should the Vikings focus on in free agency and the draft? There are certainly a lot of different ways the team can approach things.
PFF has a best case scenario. The outlet listed an ideal offseason for each NFL team. The Vikings’ best case scenario: “Sign a cheap veteran edge rusher in free agency, sign a cheap veteran guard in free agency and draft Christian Barmore at No. 14 overall,” according to Anthony Treash of PFF. Here’s what else he wrote:
“One option for the defense line is a reunion with Everson Griffen, who played for Minnesota from 2010 to 2019 and earned a 76.6 pass-rush grade in his last season with the team. As for the offensive line, Matt Feiler, who has played both guard and tackle, would be a dream scenario. He finished inside the top 20 in pass-blocking grade at tackle in 2019 and then guard in 2020. Plus, he likely costs only $12 million over two years.”
I think Minnesota, due to its cap situation, is better off focusing on other positions other than defensive tackle. Offensive line is an important one, especially if Riley Reiff departs this offseason. If the team can keep Reiff, it might be best to draft a defensive end. But if Barmore can provide consistent pressure at the NFL level, then maybe he’s the best player available.
