There were a lot of disappointing element that went behind the Jacksonville Jaguars 2019 season from players being traded, to injuries, and pretty much anything fans could think of. There even some players who fans had high expectations for that struggled, with the most notable being linebacker Myles Jack.
The young team captain came into 2020 with a ton of momentum, earning a new four-year, $57 million extension that guaranteed $33 million. However, when the regular season came around, that momentum quickly plummeted as it became clear that he was displaced in the Jags’ scheme at the MIKE linebacker position.
Ultimately, he finished the season with a Pro Football Focus score of 44.9 after going on injured reserve with a knee injury early in December. However, 2020 marks a new year that will consist of a position change to weak-side linebacker and a clean bill of health. For that reason, PFF’s Anthony Treash listed him as the Jags’ comeback player of the upcoming season.
Jack’s eight penalties — three more than any other off-ball linebacker — didn’t help matters, but the issues ran a bit deeper. In coverage, he allowed the same number of first downs in 2019 as he did in 2018 (17) but played 231 fewer snaps; he saw his coverage grade dip from 66.5 to 45.9, and he also allowed a passer rating of 119.1 on throws into his coverage, up from 97.7 the year before. — PFF
