PFF calls pocket presence QB Marcus Mariota’s biggest weakness

Quarterback Marcus Mariota doesn’t have Tennessee Titans fans convinced he’s the signal-caller of the future three games into the season.

He’s lacked accuracy, and has just not looked settled in the pocket so far in 2019.

So, it doesn’t come as much of a surprise that Pro Football Focus named pocket presence as his greatest weakness.

“For such an athletic player, Mariota struggles to find a rhythm in the pocket,” analyst Cam Mellor wrote. “He takes off more than most, scrambling out of the pocket on 63 attempts since the 2017 season, the sixth-most scrambles among all quarterbacks. He has invited 12 sacks on his own over that time as well, finding unnecessary pressure far too often.”

Mariota has already been sacked 17 times this season — nine times against the Jacksonville Jaguars, and four times per game against the Cleveland Browns and the Indianapolis Colts.

On the season, the quarterback is 56-of-92 passes for 706 yards, with four touchdowns and no interceptions.

Mariota will look to improve in this area as the team prepares to take on the Atlanta Falcons on the road on Sept. 29.
