The Jacksonville Jaguars entered their bye week on a sour note after a 26-3 loss to the Houston Texans, but there were a few players who played well despite the score.
On defense, Taven Bryan and Abry Jones both had solid days in the interior of the defensive line and fans couldn’t help but notice both wrecking havoc on the Texans offensive line. Bryan ultimately ended the day with three tackles, while Jones had five and both finished the day tied for the highest grade on defense (76.5), according to Pro Football Focus.
The day that both defensive tackles had was certainly encouraging for fans with defensive tackle Marcell Dareus being placed on injured reserve with a very low chance to return this season. It’s especially encouraging for Bryan, who is replacing him, and was a player who fans wanted to see more from after being selected as the team’s first round pick of 2018. Even aside from Week 9’s game, Bryan has lived in the backfield and was a player we praised as one of the most improved of 2019.
On offense, Cam Robinson led the way with a 74.2 grade. As mentioned for Jones and Bryan, this should encourage fans as Robinson was a penalty machine earlier in the year. As of late, he’s been strong as a run blocker but his grade for Sunday’s game may be more indicative of his day as a pass blocker being that the Jags only had 74 rushing yards. Heading forward the Jags will need him to continue his success, especially with rookie Gardner Minshew II in the backfield or veteran Nick Foles returning from injury.
