PFA headhunters have failed to persuade Jason Roberts to apply for the role of chief executive.
Mirror Sport understands the Concacaf Director of Development, 43, has chosen to remain with the organisation where he continues to be highly regarded.
City headhunters, the Savannah Group, are assisting four non-executives tasked with finding a successor to the Players Union’s current chief executive Gordon Taylor who steps down this year.
They are understood to have made ex-Reading and Blackburn striker Roberts aware that they are still looking to finalise their shortlist this month.
Ex-Ipswich, Stoke and Burnley striker Jon Walters has staked his claim for the role along with former Walsall and Port Vale defender, current PFA chairman Ben Purkiss and Former Republic of Ireland midfielder Gareth Farrelly.
Roberts appeared for five Premier League clubs during his playing career. But, four years into joining Concacaf - the governing body for football in North and Central America and the Caribbean - he is settled in Florida with his family.
Roberts left England to pursue a career in football administration but retains a healthy respect among his fellow pros in this country.
He currently oversees initiatives in grassroots football, coach education and the professional game across 41 countries.
