Peyton Manning will return to play another season with the Denver Broncos, according to ESPN sources.
Manning is said to have met Broncos officials, including general manager John Elway, and did not discuss the possibility of retirement. A formal decision is expected to be reached by the middle of next week but the 38-year-old is understood to be positive about his fitness after undergoing tests in the last few weeks. Manning was hampered by a quadriceps injury towards the end of last season.
Speculation over Manning’s future rose after he put in one of his worst ever playoff performances as the Broncos lost to the Indianapolis Colts last month. “My mindset right now is just disappointment after today’s game. I kind of need to process this game, and we’ll meet tomorrow,” Manning said after the game. Reporters pressed Manning on his future but he would not be drawn. “I can’t give that simple answer,” he said.
There have been several changes in Denver recently. They have a new head coach in Gary Kubiak while Demaryius Thomas and Julius Thomas are free agents.
