Peyton Manning says he was never contacted for Jets GM role

Following the surprise firing of the New York Jets former general manager, it was rumored that Indianapolis Colts great Peyton Manning was among the candidates to take the role.

Those rumors were never confirmed, but Manning made it clear Wednesday that he wasn’t in the running for the vacant job. The future Hall of Famer told The New York Post that he was never contacted by the Jets about the job.

The first part about not being contacted can be taken at Manning’s word. The second part about him not being qualified is just outright silly. Of course, he would be qualified to be a general manager.

Whether he wants to take on that much responsibility at this point in his life is the question, though.

The Jets are still searching for the new general manager to work with new head coach Adam Gase, but we know now that Manning won’t be, and apparently never was, a serious candidate.
