Peyton Manning reveals reason for turning down ‘Monday Night Football’

From the moment Peyton Manning closed the door on his illustrious playing career, many felt that the natural progression would be to join the broadcast booth for one of the major television networks that cover the league.

The opportunity was there when Jason Witten stepped out of the booth of Monday Night Football in order to return to the field. ESPN made its pitch, but Manning turned it down.

Recently, the former Denver Broncos quarterback revealed why he made that decision.

As reported by Yahoo Sports, Manning saw that the Monday Night Football schedule contained two games featuring his brother, Eli, the quarterback of the New York Giants, and felt that calling his games and critiquing his brother would be improper. He felt the same way about some former teammates.

It appears that if Manning ever decides to be a commentator, it will be after his brother and some of his former teammates have moved on from the game.

Though some may see this as a “weak” stance, it’s certainly one that should be respected.
