Peyton Manning isn’t taking Jets’ GM job

When the New York Jets fired general manager Mike Maccagnan last week, Peyton Manning’s name instantly emerged as a potential replacement candidate. Manning played under Jets coach Adam Gase with the Denver Broncos, so the connection made sense.

But New York’s search for a new GM is not expected to lead to Manning, according to reports.

“[It’s] not expected to be Peyton Manning,” Ian Rapoport said during an appearance on NFL Network on Monday. “I know there were some reports and rumors over the weekend, it doesn’t sound like that’s really any consideration other than the fact that he actually knows Adam Gase and the two get along well.

“First of all, why would Peyton take that job? Second of all, it just doesn’t seem to me that is something at all in the Jets’ plans.”

So it sounds like New York isn’t interested in hiring Manning and he apparently isn’t interested in them, either.

The Jets’ opening is “not a job he seems to want,” SNY’s Ralph Vacchiano reported Monday, via ProFootballTalk.com.

So that’s that. Manning is not headed to New York anytime soon.
