Nov. 16--Peyton Manning will miss the Denver Broncos' next game, Sunday against the Chicago Bears, Coach Gary Kubiak announced Monday. Backup Brock Osweiler will get the start.
Manning was pulled during the third quarter of the Denver Broncos' ugly loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday. He has been playing with plantar fasciitis in his right foot, according to multiple reports, and seems to have aggravated the injury with additional small tearing against the Chiefs.
NFL Media's Ian Rapoport tweeted that Manning could miss next week's game and "potentially more." The Broncos play the New England Patriots, featuring Manning's longtime rival Tom Brady at quarterback, on Nov. 29.
CBS4 Denver reported Wednesday that Manning played with the condition the previous week in a loss to Indianapolis and that Coach Gary Kubiak noted his quarterback had been experiencing soreness in the foot for a couple of weeks.
Manning wasn't making excuses Sunday after completing five of 20 passes for 35 yards and four interceptions for a passer rating of zero.
"I thought I felt good enough to play," Manning said.
But "by going out there and trying to help the team, I ended up hurting the team."
Kubiak put the blame on his own shoulders for playing Manning, even after he showed up at practice Saturday with the additional ailment of sore ribs.
"I probably should have right there said, you know, no, he's not going to go this week," Kubiak said. "But he's a competitor, he wanted to play."
