'Pettiest neighbour ever' sends a clear message to next-door

Sometimes you get lucky, and your neighbours become your friends.

Other times, living near a certain somebody can be less than ideal.

Neighbourly disputes come in all shapes and sizes. Whether it's blaring music, or a fence that's a bit too high, it's not uncommon to find yourself in a feud with the person next door.

And one poster on Reddit seems to have found one of the greatest examples of 'British pettiness' in a neighbourly dispute displayed in a single photo, the Mirror reports.

The photo shows two houses, with a clean driveway on the right hand side and wrought iron gates beside the wall.

On the other side is a nice, perhaps slightly untidy, lawn with a tree on the boundary of next-door's drive.

It seems the tree has caused the arguments.

A closer look shows the tree has been completely cut down one side.

As if a perfect straight line has been cut down the middle of the two driveways, the lush tree is completely cut off on the other side - where it would presumably jut out over the neighbour's property.

The photo was posted with the caption: "Some traditional British pettiness on display" and has racked up more than 30,000 likes from people who, presumably, recognise the exact dispute these two houses are having.

One Reddit user commented: "The wrought iron gate really sets it off nicely. Feel like I know the exact guy."

Another said they had experienced something very similar with an overbearing neighbour in the past.

The user wrote: "He asked if he could cut down the ivy on the front of my house. I said no. He tried to do it when he thought I was out."

After an expletive-filled exchange between the pair, the loving neighbourly relationship was ruined forever, and they only ever spoke about ivy from then on.

The user added that, when he sold the house, his neighbour went ahead and cut the ivy anyway.
