Pets at Home is selling utterly adorable Halloween costumes for dogs from just £1.50

Pets at Home has unveiled its Halloween costume range for dogs - and it's almost too cute.

The range starts at just £1.50 for a witch's hat, with full costumes setting owners back just £10.

There's everything included from a pumpkin costume, to ways to turn your furry friend into a lion, witch or giant spider.

For those looking for subtler costumes, there are also bandanas and hats, bow ties and - just for them - some Halloween toys and doggy treats on sale.

"Pets at Home understands that pets are part of our family, so it’s natural to include our four-legged companions in fun and special events," the chain said in a statement.

But it came with a warning too.

"It’s important ensure pets are comfortable so that they can enjoy the celebrations too," Pets at Home added.

The good news is they also had tips for people planning to include their four-pawed friends in the family costume fun.

Here's the store's advice on dressing up your dog in fancy dress safely:

  • Giving your dog space: it’s important for them to feel like they have a choice and that they can escape if they’re uncomfortable, as opposed to feeling cornered or threatened
  • Making the experience a positive one: only let them wear outfits for a few minutes at a time initially and give them their favourite treats to create a positive association
  • Introducing accessories or costumes gradually: it can take time and it’s not something you can always jump straight into
  • Looking out for signs of them becoming overwhelmed or upset: including tucking their tail under, flattening their ears, turning their head away or easily missed signs such as licking their lips or yawning; it’s important they’re never ignored
  • Never forcing your pet: if they become overwhelmed or upset, your pet can still join in the fun with simpler, less intrusive accessories like collar sliders and bandanas

Pets at Home added that owners should also be vigilant around any hazards that may be present during special events, for example, foods or plants that may be poisonous to pets, and any items which could be swallowed or cause choking.

Owners were also advised not to take their pets close to, or allow access to bonfires, fireworks or naked candles.

"Following these simple guidelines should ensure both pets and their owners can share all important special occasions together," the chain said.

The full range is available in selected stores and online now.
