Detectives are appealing for information following a report of arson at residential premises in North Belfast.

It was reported in the Glenrosa Link area on Thursday, September 3.

Police said shortly after 4:30am, it was reported that "petrol had been poured through a letterbox of a house in the area and set alight".

A man and woman were inside the house at the time of the incident and were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.

A PSNI spokesperson added: "Extensive damage was caused to the front door, the porch, hallway ceiling and upstairs floor of the property.

"Smoke damage was also reported throughout the house following the incident. Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service attended the scene and extinguished the fire.

"A woman in her 40s and a man in his 20s were inside the house and were later treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.

"Enquiries are continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and police would appeal to anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the area to contact detectives on 101, quoting reference number 188 03/09/20."

An online report can be submitted using the non-emergency reporting form via  http://www.psni.police.uk/makeareport/   .
