Petrol bomb thrown at car and reports of shots fired in targeted attack on quiet Bury street

Police are investigating on a quiet Bury street after two people allegedly threw a petrol bomb at a car in a targeted attack.

Officers were called to Lea Mount Drive at 8pm last night (Thursday March 18) following initial reports of criminal damage to a car.

Cops say that a petrol bomb was thrown at the car by 'two offenders' but didn't go off.

It is believed that the incident was targeted and Greater Manchester Police (GMP) also received reports of a firearms discharge in the same vicinity.

No one is believed to be injured and no arrests have been made.

A GMP spokesman said: "Just before 8pm on Thursday 19 March, police were called to a report of criminal damage at an address on Lea Mount Drive, Bury.

"A car had been damaged, and subsequent enquiries have established a petrol bomb was thrown at the vehicle by two offenders, but failed to ignite.

"The item has been recovered for forensic analysis.

"No arrests have been made and an investigation is ongoing.

"A scene remains in place after a report of a firearms discharge in the same vicinity. No evidence has yet been found in relation to this.

"Detectives are working to ascertain the circumstances of the incident but do believe it was a targeted attack.

"No injuries have been reported."

Police are still at the scene this morning (March 19) and a cordon remains in place.

Forensic investigators and detectives were seen entering the crime scene just after 9am.
