Petr Cech responds over 'incomprehensible' decision which impacts two Chelsea stars at Euro 2020

Chelsea technical director Petr Cech has labelled the decision that has seen Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell isolate until next Tuesday after coming into contact with Billy Gilmour as "incomprehensible".

The Chelsea duo have been ruled out of England's final Euro 2020 group game against the Czech Republic tonight and will have to train and stay away from the rest of the Three Lions squad after speaking to Gilmour following the 0-0 draw against Scotland at Wembley on Friday night.

Gilmour has since tested positive for Covid-19 and has entered a ten-day period of self-isolation. As a result of chatting to their Chelsea teammate in the Wembley tunnel after the game, Mount and Chilwell will have to do the same up to and including Monday, June 28.

Mount and Chilwell have twice tested negative for Covid-19 since England's draw with Scotland. But after discussions between The FA and Public Health England, the decision was taken for both to isolate and miss tonight's game.

No members of the Scotland squad have had to isolate following Gilmour's positive test despite sharing a plane, team bus, dressing room and hotel with the 20-year-old midfielder since Friday's game.

That is because UEFA protocols on social distancing have been maintained throughout the tournament within the Scotland camp.

Yet Cech has taken to Instagram to question why Mount and Chilwell are being forced to miss a crucial game when they've twice tested negative.

He wrote: "Please could someone help me understand how it is possible Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell - both with negative tests - have to isolate after they got in contact with Billy Gilmour while the entire Scottish team who have shared the dressing room, hotel, coach and plane while traveling [sic], dining room, and meeting room is allowed to play the game without any problem because they returned the required negative tests?

"What is the difference between them returning the same test results? It is incomprehensible..."

Mount has started England's opening two games at Euro 2020: a 1-0 victory over Croatia and the 0-0 draw with Scotland.

Chilwell, meanwhile, has yet to get onto the pitch for the Three Lions. He was omitted from the 23-man matchday squad for the win against Croatia and while he made the bench against Scotland, he wasn't introduced.
