Michael Essien says it will be 'great' for Edouard Mendy and his fellow Chelsea goalkeepers to have Petr Cech around.
The previously retired Cech was a shock inclusion in Chelsea's Premier League squad, Frank Lampard calling upon his old teammate in case the Blues are left short with injuries between the sticks.
And while Cech, who also serves as the club's technical advisor, is unlikely to feature, former Chelsea midfielder Essien believes his presence will be more than handy for the likes of Mendy and Kepa Arrizabalaga.
"It is good, Petr can still play," Essien told Goal. "Goalkeepers can go longer than outfield players; it is good for him.
"Pete is a very lovely guy and it is great to have him around and it will be great for the Chelsea goalkeepers.
"I always used to say that he thought he was smarter than he is! I am joking, he is very smart, speaks a lot of languages, plays his drums and in my time he was one of the leaders who spoke up to make things better for the squad.

"I am happy for him to be back at the club in a very important role. I think he is doing well so far and I wish him all the best."
Essien spent nine years at Chelsea in all, signing for the club in 2005 from Lyon and leaving in 2014, 168 league appearances and two Premier League titles later.
