Chelsea Technical and Performance advisor Petr Cech has revealed what his role is around transfers.
The 37-year-old spent 11 years as a player at Stamford Bridge, winning 13 trophies, including four Premier League titles and the Champions League.
And after retiring from playing back in 2019, Cech returned to Stamford Bridge last summer to take up the newly created role.
The Blues were unable to sign any players in last summer’s transfer window due to a FIFA ban, but they are certainly making up for lost ground now.
Already they have secured the services of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner, and when asked during an appearance on Soccer Am if he played a part in the negotiations to bring the German to the Stamford Bridge, Cech revealed there is only one person at the club who gets the deals done.
“I would love to say so, but at our club there's only one person that makes things get over the line or done, which is Marina, obviously,” he said.
“My part of the job is to make sure together with the manager that we are happy to identify the player we want.
“Then we want to make sure that the players is happy to join for football reasons.
“Then Marina and the club have to negotiate the other aspects of the deals. Obviously, she is the best person to do so.
“She has been doing it a long time now with a lot of success so there is no reason for anyone to try to step in and do it.
“As I said the football part is part of my job, and to make sure the manager is happy and the club is happy with the players coming in.
“Then Marina does the difficult part which is to negotiate with the club and all the conditions.”
