Petr Cech backs Frank Lampard's huge Chelsea fines: 'You can have zero talent, but you can be on time'

Petr Cech says hefty fines have always been in effect at Chelsea, after Frank Lampard's disciplinary measures were leaked.

Earlier in November, an image circulated on social media of the fines system at the club , with players fined £20,000 is they miss the start of training.

Should one of Lampard's stars be late for a team meeting, they will be hit with a £500-a-minute rate. Phone rings during meeting or team meal? That's £1,000.

If any fine is not paid within two weeks, it is doubled.

Cech, now technical and performance advisor at Chelsea, backs the fines as respect and discipline helps a player - and those around him - both on the pitch and off.

"Some people find it surprising but we have always had huge fines at Chelsea," he told The Guardian.

"The commitment to work is really important. To respect the rules is something where you need no talent. You can have zero talent, but you can be on time.

"It is about commitment. This is not to scare people. It is just to remind them that if you can control your discipline the better it will be for everybody."
