Petition set up calling for anti-social behaviour at Adamsdown park to be stopped

Adamsdown residents are calling on South Wales Police and Cardiff council to tackle the anti-social behaviour they say is ruining a local park.

Brewery Park off Nora Street and Helen Street in Adamsdown, Cardiff, is in a perfect location for young families and children. It has green space, a children’s play area, a basketball court, and outdoor fitness equipment.

But some parents are concerned that it's not a safe space for their children to play.

WalesOnline has teamed up with In Your Area to launch a petition calling on the local authorities to take action and make the park a safer place for families.

You can sign the petition here:

Julianne Kodurand, who has lived in Adamsdown for seven years, said her four-year-old son enjoys spending time in the playground but claims some of the equipment is broken, there is often broken glass on the ground, and says drug paraphernalia has become commonplace.

She said: “I’ve lived here for about seven years and it’s always been the same. There’s a lot of anti-social behaviour, drug use and vandalism.

“I have a little boy and I’ve taken him there ever since I was born because it’s so close to us but every time we go there’s broken glass everywhere and there’s usually drug paraphernalia on the ground and people will be in the playground smoking. It’s not nice at all.

“The equipment gets vandalised all the time. Half of it is either broken or not there anymore. It started off with two swings and now there’s only one.

“It’s quite a residential area around here and it could be such a nice space for families to use. It’s such a shame.”

Julianne said she would like to see South Wales Police tackle anti-social behaviour in the area, Cardiff Council fix the broken equipment, and the community to look after the park.
