Petition set up after 'shocking' decision to shut two branches of TSB in Gedling

There have been calls to halt controversial plans to close two of Gedling's TSB branches.

In a letter to the chief executive of TSB, the leader of the borough council John Clarke and deputy leader Michael Payne said they were "deeply disappointed" to hear of plans to close the Mapperley Plains and Netherfield banks.

This week the bank announced plans to close 164 branches as it follows its customers, who are increasingly banking online.

It was confirmed the Mapperley branch in Plains Road will close on February 23 and the Low Pavement branch in Nottingham city centre will then close on May 20.

The letter said: "TSB’s proposal to close Mapperley Plains and Netherfield branches in early 2021 will have a detrimental impact on our local population and the hardworking staff who work in these branches, and will exacerbate problems with social isolation that are already prevalent within society locally and nationally.

"These proposed closures will disproportionately disadvantage older, disabled, financially excluded and socially isolated customers - we, therefore, call on you to reconsider your decision to close the Mapperley Plains and Netherfield TSB branches."

They said the decision to close the branches without consultation with the community was "shocking".

It added: "We urge you to listen to the people of Gedling borough and immediately halt plans to close Mapperley Plains and Netherfield TSB branches."

A petition to save Mapperley Plains and Netherfield banks has been set up here.
