Petition launched to save Penneys shop in Rathfarnham Shopping Centre

A petition has been launched to save the Penneys shop located in Rathfarnham Shopping Centre.

As reported by Dublin Live back in October, staff were left shocked over plans to close the location which has been open for three decades.

The Change.org petition was launched two days ago and has already collected over 400 signatures.

Locals have been showing their support for the shop, with one saying: "Great to have a small local penneys and very handy for elderly people who can't make the longer journeys. Shame to lose it."

While another added: "This store is valuable to the local community and an anchor store for the whole shopping centre."

The shop is due to close in February, with staff given the option to relocate to either Liffey Valley, Dundrum, or Nutgrove.

There are also concerns from other shops located in the Rathfarnham Shopping Centre, with the loss of the popular clothing location feared to have an impact on footfall.

Local TD John Lahart previously raised his concerns about the imminent closure of the store.

He said: "My priority is to ensure that Penneys, which would have been a big attraction and big draw to this shopping centre, is replaced as quickly as possible.

"I've written to the management company, requested a meeting, to see what their plans are to attract a replacement tenant for this premises as soon as possible."
