Petition launched to repeal ban on pints outside famous Dublin pub John Kavanagh's 'The Gravediggers'

A petition has been set up to repeal the ban on drinking outside one of Dublin's most famous pubs.

It was reported on Wednesday that Gardai had told the owners of Glasnevin watering hole, John Kavanagh's 'The Gravediggers' that they could no longer let customers bring their pints outside.

This disrupted a 170 year tradition which saw pints being served inside and outside of the pub.

The owner said that they will be obeying the gardai's stance on the matter.

But, an outraged public have decided to launch a petition against the decision on the historic establishment.

Set up by Instagram page Dublin By Pub, the Change.org appeal hopes to make a difference to uplift the "inherent unfairness" of the ban.

They Petition reads: "It was recently reported in the news that Gardai are to clamp down on the tradition of having a few pints outside Kavanagh's (aka The Gravediggers) pub in Glasnevin.

"We wish to highlight the inherent unfairness of this to the authorities and add that the same laws are not enforced outside countless amounts of pubs across the city.

"The Gravediggers is an institution. A bastion of Irish culture. In family ownership for literal centuries."
