Over 150,000 people have signed a petition calling for a change of law following reports of spiking across nighttime venues.
Hannah Thomson from Glasgow set up the petition calling for all venues to be legally required to search all customers upon arrival after reports of spiking by injection.
Allegations have been made of spiking at venues including Nice N Sleazy in Glasgow.
Police Scotland are currently investigating the incidents and are appealing for any victims to come forward.
Sharing the petition, 24-year-old Hannah said: "I would like the UK Government to make it law that nightclubs must search guests on arrival to prevent harmful weapons and other items entering the establishment. This could be a pat-down search or metal detector but must involve measures being put in place to ensure the safety of the public.
"There are too many cases of weapons and 'date rape' drugs being used in clubs. It begs the question, why aren't nightclubs required to do more to prevent harmful items from making it into their clubs?"
The petition has attracted an impressive 153,000 signatures at the time of writing and is continuing to rise.
It has now made the threshold for a Westminster parliamentary debate to be considered.
A boycott of clubs has been planned by women on October 28 to urge improved safety. The Girls Night In campaign is urging revellers to avoid going to major party venues in Glasgow and Edinburgh.
