Petershill v East Kilbride Thistle set to go ahead despite massive Covid outbreak

EK Thistle’s clash with Petershill is set to go ahead despite a massive Covid outbreak in the Peasy squad.

Six players, ten committee members, manager Martin Lauchlan and a coach have all returned positive tests in the last few days.

It’s understood that all the cases were linked to Petershill’s bus journey to play Kirriemuir in the Scottish Junior Cup tie last weekend.

Despite the whole squad being on the same bus as the players that tested positive, Lanarkshire Live understands that the game is set to go ahead as it stands.

Petershill can still field a side but manager Lauchlan believes it’s endangering the welfare of the EK Thistle players and staff.

He said: “The game is still going ahead. We’ve asked for a postponement but apparently you need seven players to be positive before it can be.

“We’ve still got 10 or 11 players but I’d think some will be close contacts. That’s the worrying thing for me because it’s a safety concern.

"If we are told to play then we have to play.

“We’ll have boys that haven’t been tested on the same pitch. That is potentially a risk to East Kilbride because everybody who tested positive was on the same coach.”
