Peterhead defeat puts Clyde into League One relegation scrap

Clyde boss Danny Lennon can’t work out what Peterhead have against his side as they succumbed to a bruising 3-0 League One defeat at Broadwood.

Grant Savoury notched a double for the Blue Toon and a fantastic Hamish Ritchie effort sealed a difficult afternoon for Lennon’s side.

With Dumbarton also winning on Saturday at Alloa, the Bully Wee have been pulled back into the relegation scrap in Scotland’s third-tier.

The Sons – who sit in the relegation play-off spot of ninth – are six points behind Clyde while Peterhead, a place above, are just two points behind.

Lennon’s men have failed to beat Jim McInally’s this season, and the former St Mirren boss said: “It is a difficult one to pinpoint. We came into this game today in good form. We know what is at stake and every time we come across Peterhead, we always seem to come out second-best.

It has been a tough season for Clyde, who are being pulled into a survival battle (SNS Group)

“I thought the game started pretty even as we tried to get to grips with it. Even looking at their goals, they have one chance in the first half outside a couple of strikes outside the box.

“We have two fantastic opportunities in the first half and don’t take them. That’s a big turning point in the game but we started to dominate in some areas during the second half.

“We're trying to put more creative players in to get ourselves back into the game. It couldn’t have been a worse day for us in terms of them pulling closer to us and Dumbarton winning.

"When you don't bring your key ingredients, it makes it difficult. We didn't win enough personal battles and Peterhead brought all of those ingredients.”

Clyde travel to face Alloa on Saturday, who are a place above on goal difference.
