Peterborough United accept offer for boyhood Sunderland fan Marcus Maddison

Peterborough United owner Darragh MacAnthony has confirmed the club have accepted an offer for winger Marcus Maddison.

The boyhood Sunderland fan and former Newcastle United player has long been tipped with a move to the Stadium of Light.

But the 26-year-old is now in discussions with Championship outfit Charlton Athletic after the Posh accepted an offer from Lee Bowyer's side.

MacAnthony confirmed the club had also rejected "multiple" bids from two other Championship sides.

The owner posted the following statement on Twitter on Monday morning: "As of this morning Peterborough has accepted a bid from Charlton who have permission to talk terms with the player.

"2 other championship clubs have bid for the player multiple times & do not currently have permission to speak to the player. "

Maddison was reportedly keen on a move to Sunderland, but the Black Cats were not prepared to meet the asking price in the January window.

Speaking after the thumping victory over Wycombe on Saturday, Parkinson revealed further signings should be expected this week.

The Black Cats completed a deal for Northern Ireland international Kyle Lafferty on Friday, and the manager is still believed to be keen on bringing in another forward, midfielder, and defender before the window closes.

Parkinson said: "I wouldn’t imagine anything else will happen over the weekend, but we are working on things early next week.”
