Peterborough danger men: Marcus Maddison and two others Sunderland will have to keep quiet

Sunderland travel to Peterborough on Saturday looking for a fourth consecutive league win.

A good run of form has seen the Black Cats move joint-top of League One after five games, but Peterborough, having lost their first two, have found form and won last time out against MK Dons 4-0.

Jack Ross will be hoping to leave London Road Stadium with all three points but outlined the dangers of Posh's forwards in his pre-match press conference.

These are the men that Sunderland will have to keep quiet if they are to get the win against promotion rivals.

Marcus Maddison

If many Sunderland fans had their way, boyhood Sunderland fan Maddison would be lining up for them in tomorrow's game.

As it happens, the 25-year-old attacking midfielder is still at Posh and looks likely to see out the remainder of his contract their before leaving on a free next summer.

He's started the season well too. Playing at top of Darren Ferguson's midfield diamond, the number ten has one goal and five assists already this season.

In the last two - Posh's two wins this season - Maddison scored his goal and registered three assists, with no coincidence between Posh's better form and Maddison's coming at the same time.

Sunderland know only too well how much quality Maddison has and they can't afford to give him any space because he will punish them - even if he will hope to sign for them next summer.

Ivan Toney

The former Newcastle United striker netted 23 times last season to win the club's top goalscorer award.

And he's quickly got into his stride this term, netting four already, with a run of three goals in three games right now.

He netted a late equaliser for Peterborough at the Stadium of Light last season and Ross will know only too well how clinical he can be if given half a chance. Sunderland can't afford to give him that.

Mo Eisa

A name Sunderland fans will know well. Mo Eisa was a striker target for the Black Cats last summer before he ultimately moved to Bristol City.

Things didn't work out for the striker there, but a summer move to Posh is already proving fruitful.

He's already forming a potent strike partnership with Toney, and like his partner already has four goals in the new campaign, including two last time out against MK Dons.

With pace and lethal finishing, Sunderland will have to watch him closely.
