Peter Wright turns on the turbo to beat Damon Heta as second PDC World Championship crown still on

Peter Wright turned on the turbo to stay on course for a second World crown.

Scotland's World Cup-winning hero produced a scintillating burst to devastate Damon Heta and surge into the fourth round.

Wright was slow to get going and lost the first two sets to the Australian as an Ally Pally shock threatened.

However, Snakebite changed equipment and that changed the mood as he then produced a blistering burst.

Wright was outstanding in the final four sets winning 12 of 15 legs with an average of 110 to show his title credentials.

The Scot will now take on Ryan Searle in the next round as he looks to follow up his winning of the Sid Waddell Trophy two years ago.

Earlier in the day, a frustrated Michael van Gerwen was forced to withdraw from the tournament after testing positive for Covid-19.

His shock removal from the game’s showpiece event was confirmed just hours before his scheduled third-round clash with Chris Dobey.
